Vale do Gigante Portal

At the foot of the majestic Paraná Peak, the highest mountain in southern Brazil, is the Vale do Gigante Portal. The region takes this name because the mountain range seen from all over the plain resembles the figure of a huge sleeping giant. The city of Antonina has stimulated the region to offer an increasing range of attractions to tourists. There are already many, including lodging, restaurants, local guides, adventure sports (such as rafting and canoeing), hiking, observation of flora and fauna, handicrafts, organic and agro-ecological products, native bee honeys, and cultural activities.

Several communities have been working together: Bairro Alto, Cachoeira de Cima, Cacatu (birthplace of Japanese colonization in Paraná), Rio do Nunes, and Faisqueirinha. Visitors can get here by PR-340, a paved road that also leads to the former Hydroelectric Power Plant Governador Pedro Viriato Parigot de Souza, whose employees’ village is now a tourist facility.
