Rotas do Pinhão Sector

The Rotas do Pinhão Sector comprises a large part of the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, in particular, an area of the utmost importance for the inhabitants of the largest city in the state, as it is from this region that most of the water that supplies this entire population and its economic activities comes. The combination of mountains and dense, well-preserved forest makes this region an important source of pure water.

It is also the birthplace of the famous Iguaçu River, which emerges here and flows into the magnificent Iguazu Falls. Throughout the cities of Piraquara, Quatro Barras and Campina Grande do Sul, there are several summits that offer challenges to visitors. The main one is Pico Paraná, the highest in the south of the country – which is also a State Park. Yet you also have Anhangava, Morro do Canal, Pico Caratuva, among others.

Further north, between the municipalities of Adrianópolis and Tunas do Paraná, is the Lauráceas State Park, a large and beautiful protected area that relies on the experience and knowledge of the neighboring quilombola communities to care for its biodiversity. Throughout this sector, you can observe the Atlantic Forest landscape transition, which occurs at the meeting of the highlands with the mountain range and is home to the largest portions of Araucaria Forest within the Great Reserve.

To the south, São José dos Pinhais is an international visitor gateway, as it is where the Afonso Pena International Airport is located, but it is also, along with Tijucas do Sul, excellent representatives of rural tourism, which takes place in several communities throughout these municipalities.
