Guarakessaba Portal

At the Guarakessaba Portal there are some of the best preserved areas of Atlantic Forest in the entire Great Reserve. The jaguar inhabits its dense forests, as do other species of large mammals such as tapirs, peccaries and pumas. Guaraqueçaba was one of the first places reached by the Portuguese during colonization. It was here that the history of the state of Paraná began.

Time may have passed, but the city still maintains much of its original characteristics, including the historic buildings, the central square facing the bay, and also the caiçara culture, which can be witnessed in the traditional boats or in the Fandango dance circles. The Portal can be reached by boat from Paranaguá, or, for the more adventurous, by PR-405, a 78 km dirt road. Along the way, dozens of communities can be visited, such as Tagaçaba; Potinga; Serra Negra; Rio Verde; Batuva; Morato, among many others.
