The Portal Nascentes do Iguaçu is located in the municipalities of Campina Grande do Sul, Colombo, Pinhais, Piraquara, Quatro Barras, and São José dos Pinhais — where the Afonso Pena International Airport is situated. The territory partially covers the Iguaçu, Ribeira, and Coastal hydrographic basins, where the Iraí, Piraquara, Capivari, and Miringuava dams are located, which are responsible for supplying more than 3 million people.
This hydrological network is formed by rivers and tributaries of great importance—such as the Iguaçu, Piraquara, Iraí, Pequeno, and Miringuava rivers—which, in addition to ensuring water security, create a landscape of remarkable natural beauty. The Iguaçu Falls originate from this region. These environments support a rich diversity of fauna and flora, including areas of Araucaria Forest, a threatened ecosystem and a symbol of southern Brazil.
The Portal stands out as a destination for nature tourism, offering diverse routes for cycling, mountaineering, birdwatching, waterfall visits, water sports, and hiking. The strong presence of rural communities, local producers, and traditional communities makes the region a fertile territory for rural and community-based tourism.
