The term Lagamar describes the geographical character of the region, where numerous rivers descend from the mountains and meet the seawater, interspersed with canals, islands, and shoals, forming an exuberant landscape. It is in the Lagamar Portal that the Ribeira de Iguape River completes its journey to the ocean, flowing into the Mar Pequeno (Small Sea).
Here, you will always discover an itinerary to suit your taste—from hikes through the forest and deserted beaches to canoe trips; from wildlife watching to cycling trails. In this Portal, you will find forests, mangroves, beaches, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, valleys, islands, and a rich cultural and historical heritage. It could not be otherwise: in 1498, the Spanish were already venturing into the region, and the adventure continues today.
The Lagamar Portal encompasses four cities: Cananéia blends natural attractions with rich colonial architecture and a vibrant culture; Iguape emerged from a small village founded by the Spanish in 1498; Ilha Comprida is a seaside resort 74 km long and approximately 4 km wide, with beautiful beaches to the east and the Mar Pequeno to the west; and Pariquera-Açu is a former imperial colony founded to house European immigrants.
