Bocaiúva do Sul is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Paraná, belonging to the Vale do Ribeira region. According to 2018 IBGE estimates, its population was 12,755 inhabitants, ranking as the 177th most populous in the state. The municipality’s name is a tribute to the republican Quintino Bocaiuva, a journalist and politician. Etymologically, the term “Bocaiuva” originates from the Tupi word “mbocaya-üb”, which refers to the Acrocomia sclerocarpa palm tree.
