The municipality was established on July 25, 1960, by Law No. 4,245, enacted by Governor Moysés Lupion. Upon its emancipation, the locality was renamed Adrianópolis in honor of Adriano Seabra da Fonseca, a Portuguese businessman who, starting in 1937, fought significantly for the community.
