Representatives from the Portal Network of the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and São Paulo participated
Representatives from the Portal Network of the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo participated. The Network is a collaborative platform that facilitates and encourages joint actions involving representatives from a wide range of fields and regions.
Among the entities present were representatives from ADETUR Litoral and Rotas do Pinhão, Serra Verde Express, Olha o Peixe!, Instituto Terra Luminous, Legado das Águas, ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation), Grupo Pró-Babitonga, Ecoguaricana, IPEC (Cananea Research Institute) and SPVS (Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education).

The initiative was made possible with financial support from the Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection, one of the institutions behind the Grande Reserva since 2018. It was led by journalist Claudia Guadagnin, who works in communications at SPVS, and journalist Fernando Parracho, a professional with over 30 years of experience in television journalism. Also participating as facilitators were Laila Rebecca, responsible for social media for the Grande Reserva Mata Atlântica; Ricardo Borges, the initiative’s coordination and communications coordinator; and Gabriel Marchi, responsible for the Grande Reserva’s audiovisual productions.
For Ricardo Borges, the initiative, which brought together representatives from the areas of Tourism, Conservation, and the sustainable production sector, allowed that, “from now on, more people will be trained, qualified, and, most importantly, feel comfortable talking about the Great Atlantic Forest Reserve to different audiences and the press.”
Ana Saupe, an environmental analyst at ICMBIO, described the experience as “enriching.” “Communicating with society is a challenge in managing conservation units. We have difficulty demonstrating the immense contribution a protected area makes to society. Through the training, we learned concepts and strategies to improve this communication. Our message is important, but we need to know how to share it in a way that reaches more and more people. It was an important step in strengthening the territory as a whole, including the existing protected areas.”
Bryan Mueller, founder and director of Olha o Peixe!, which works to strengthen artisanal fishing in Paraná and, in doing so, promote greater appreciation for the state’s catch, commented that the training was timely for “strengthening ourselves as a network, learning from everyone’s experiences, and empowering ourselves to be spokespersons for the Great Atlantic Forest Reserve, but also more effective communicators about our institutions and the positive socio-environmental impact we generate through them,” he said. “We received numerous tips and understood the needs of the journalistic context to create a relationship that best promotes publicity and supports the work of the professionals involved.”

From now on, more people are trained and qualified to speak about the Great Atlantic Forest Reserve to different audiences and the press.
About the Great Atlantic Forest Reserve
The Great Atlantic Forest Reserve initiative encompasses a continuum of 2.7 million hectares of Atlantic Forest still preserved between the states of São Paulo, Paraná, and Santa Catarina. It incorporates the concept of “Nature Production” as a strategy, in which the maintenance of large, well-preserved natural areas and the presence of emblematic species, regional culture, and unique landscapes are the drivers of regional development initiatives, generating jobs and income from nature tourism activities combined with cultural and historical tourism. SPVS is one of the supporters of the initiative, which has been in existence for three years, having begun operations in August 2018.
