Piraquara is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Paran\u00e1. Through State Decree No. 17, dated January 10, 1890, Piraquara was elevated to the status of a Town (Vila de Piraquara). State Decree No. 18, issued on the same date, appointed a commission composed of six citizens who were responsible for the legislative and executive management of the locality (the vogais).<\/p>\r\nState Decree No. 25, dated January 17, 1890, established the boundaries of the new municipality, which was named Deodoro\u2014a clear tribute to Marshal Manuel Deodoro da Fonseca. On January 29, 1890, the new municipality was officially installed, the governing commission was sworn in, and the vogal Jorge Joppert was elected as the President of the Intendancy.\r\n\r\nAccording to the latest IBGE update published in 2022, its population is 118,730 inhabitants.
